Outcomes Frameworks and Health Profiles

Health profiles and outcome frameworks are a collection of indicators that help us understand how well public health is being improved and protected.     The Public Health Outcomes Framework (PHOF) is a collection of indicators that help us understand how well public health is being improved and protected.

Our performance is benchmarked against England and other local authorities.  Birmingham is performing well on some indicators but mainly performance is poor due to social and economic issues e.g. unemployment and poverty, and lifestyles e.g. phyiscal inactivity, poor diet, alcohol and smoking.

In order to identify public health priorities each of the outcomes for Birmingham has been collated according to performance relative to national, core city and statistical neighbour comparators.  These groups are:

Indicators are significantly worse than national, core city and statistical neighbour comparators

Indicators are significantly worse than the national average, but better than core city or statistical neighbour comparators (but not both) Indicators are significantly worse than the national average, but better than core city and statistical neighbour comparators Indicators are significantly better than national comparators

Other Outcome Frameworks

There are various other outcome frameworks and health profiles available for looking at particular public health issues in more depth.  These include:

Adults Social Care Outcomes Framework (ASCOF) - provides a range of data about people who use or have the potential to use Adult Social Care Services

NHS Outcomes Framework (NHSOF) - Indicators are grouped around five domains, which set out the high-level national outcomes that the NHS should be aiming to improve.
