What are Day Centres?
Adult day centres are designed for the ageing population, who may find it more difficult to socialise or stay mobile, to get involved in activities designed to promote well-being through social and health-related services. An example of some of the activities on offer from some of our cities day centres include; arts and crafts, chair based exercise, music appreciation, storytelling, bridge, lunch clubs, tea dances, IT workshops, health and wellbeing classes and so much more.
If you know someone who is suffering from dementia and would benefit from what a day centre has to offer, there are dementia specific centres to cater for the more specific needs of those suffering from dementia. These day centres welcome both those with dementia and their carers, the environment is safe and relaxed and most offer advice and support as well as light activities for everyone to get involved in.
Day centres not only help to keep the ageing population mobile and social, but can help carers and family members to have easy to access, casual respite. To view specific services for dementia choose the dementia services or dementia cafe option on the map of services.
Day centres can be in community centres, places of worship or even have their own specialised buildings. Birmingham has a wealth of day centres across the city for all to get involved with, all you need to do it look on our map of services to see what your local area has to offer.
